The collection of historic Dutch Steamtram rolling stock
Throughout the year we organise special trips and events. With our historic collection of Dutch steam engines, carriages and goods vans, we illustrate and demonstrate the history of the 'steamtram' (light railway) in our country.
Wooden carriages
In the timetable the trams numbered 3, 4, 21, and 1926 are composed of the original wooden carriages and goods vans, which, at the beginning of the 20th century, were characteristic of Dutch steamtrams. A part of these trams (21 and 22) will be hauled by one of the typical Dutch square-type Steamtramlocomotives, which can only be found at our Museum.

Thematic trams
Furthermore, a number of thematic trams will feature. They will focus on one of the many steamtram companies that were to be found all over our country. Please call or e-mail for more information.

13-16 May 2010: Festival
Westfriesland in Steam
This year, the annual steam festival of Museumstoomtram Hoorn - Medemblik will be dedicated to the historical stations at Medemblik, Opperdoes, Twisk and Wognum, which were all restored in recent years.
During the festival, there will be an intensive hourly service provided by up to six steamtrams along the 21-kilometer railway between Hoorn and Medemblik, passing each other at the stations. By contrast, the use of the biggest steam train in the Netherlands is provided.
There is much to see at the mentioned stations: changing goods between road and rail vehicles, folklore, steam powered plowing and threshing, vintage cars on the street, firefighters in Medemblik and the possibility of a trip on a steamer on lake IJsselmeer.
At Hoorn there is the opportunity to make a ride on the footplate of a steam locomotive and to visit the operating workshop.
